Stonewall Dems campaign for Central Ohio equality

by Jason Lansdale

Columbus-Stonewall Democrats of Central Ohio was established in 1997 for the purpose of ensuring sensitivity, understanding and support for issues of importance to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community; educating, promoting and electing Democratic candidates who are supportive of such issues; and organizing, educating and energizing the GLBT community to work for, support and elect these Democratic candidates.

Stonewall Democrats provides its members, and others in the community, the opportunity to interact with Democratic office holders and candidates in a variety of environments including fund raisers, meet and greets and monthly speakers. The club endorses Democratic candidates in general elections and advertises these endorsements

throughout the community. Officers of the club stay in constant contact with Democratic elected officials in order to keep them aware of issues of importance to its membership.

Stonewall Democrats of Central Ohio will once again march in the annual Columbus Pride parade. The club will also sponsor a booth at the Pride festival where current members will be busy recruiting new members and registering people to vote.

Join WOW at their new location for Pride events

by Greta Zeigler

Columbus-Women's Outreach for Women has moved its offices and programs to a new space located at 524 South Wall St., just west of South High St. between Blenker and Hoster.

WOW is dedicated to providing services for women who are generally underserved in traditional prevention programs, including lesbians, bisexual and low-income women. In recognition of Pride 2003, WOW will host two lesbian-specific workshops as part of this year's workshop series.

The first workshop, "Legal Issues for Lesbians,” held June 11, will be facilitated by Çolumbus attorney, Sheila Clark. Topics discussed may include buying a house with your partner, living wills, power of attorney and guardianship.

The June 25 "Lesbian Moms Panel Discussion" will include topics like pregnancy

101, challenges facing lesbian parents, adoption, legal issues, and parenting advice. Workshops are from 6:30-8 pm at WOW and are free and open to all interested women.

WOW is also the lead agency for the "A Matter of Pride Conference: Creating and Sustaining LGBT Affirming Services," developed for substance abuse, mental health and social service providers and consumers, held at the Columbus Health Department on June 20. Space is limited; see the conference's web site for registration information at www.geocities.com/amopconference/
